FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Open Meeting of SWRFI Board of Directors
to Preview 2006 Fly-In
Saturday, February 25th, the EAA Texas Fly-In will
be the focus of discussion at an Open Meeting of the
Board of Directors of the EAA Southwest Regional
Fly-In.
Hosts for this SWRFI Board open meeting will be EAA
Chapter 59, based at McGregor Executive Airport (PWG),
just six miles west of Waco, Texas on State Highway
84.
The February 25th meeting begins at 0800 hours with
coffee and donuts and a tour of Chapter 59's new
hangar-home where EAA aircraft builders can see a
nearly complete RV7, a new Rose Parrakeet and a
built from scratch P-40.
EAA Texas Fly-In open Board meeting begins at 1030
hours in the Chapter 59 hangar.
The SWRFI Board will discuss plans for the 2006
Fly-In to be held May 11-14, 2006 at Hondo Municipal
Airport, Hondo, Tx (HDO).
Attendees will hear how Mike Melvill, world's first
commercial astronaut, is scheduled to speak at
Forums and at the Saturday evening Awards Banquet.
Board members will describe preparations for Forums
and Workshops Friday and Saturday, and an Air Show
Saturday afternoon, May 13th.
Hondo Municipal Airport, scene of the EAA Texas
Fly-In, is an ideal facility to support an EAA event
featuring hundreds of planes and thousands of people
at a four-day celebration of home-built aircraft -
it's a 2,560 acre airport with uncongested airspace
and spaces for all types of camping, and over 10,000
square feet of hangar space for exhibitors, with all
aircraft and outdoor exhibitors located on superbly
drained concrete.
The EAA Texas Fly-In also enjoys complete
cooperation from the City of Hondo and enthusiastic
participation by Hondo citizens.
SWRFI Board members will report on permanent
restroom facilities and showers being provided for
2006, plus showers at camping areas.
Food will be served at the EAA Texas Fly-In each
morning, throughout each day and at sit-down dinners
every evening. Aircraft judging will be followed by
awards Saturday evening for kit-built, plans-built,
classic, contemporary, warbird, ultralight and
rotorcraft member-constructed or restored planes.
Special recognition and events for members who fly
in and for volunteers who help staff the The Texas
Fly-In will also be on the Board agenda.
A special presentation will be given on how General
Aviation can respond to proposed User Fees for Air
Traffic Control services, including those at the
Texas Fly-In.
Following the open Board meeting, Chapter 59 will
host a Barbeque Lunch at 1230, free to EAA members,
but with contributions gratefully accepted.
Attendees at the February 25th Open SWRFI Board
Meeting who plan to fly to McGregor Executive
Airport can do so even if P-49 is active by filing a
flight plan and activating the transponder in their
aircraft.
