Leadership Changes in the EAA Texas Fly-In

Recent elections of officers of the South West Regional Fly-In (SWRFI) — now popularly known as the EAA Texas Fly-In—have initiated the changes envisioned by the board since 2005.

Longtime President and Chairman Stan Shannon now assumes the titles of Chairman and CEO, while Norris Warner, previously Executive Vice President, has been elevated to the posts of President and COO. The substance of these changes allow Shannon to devote his energies to long-range planning and fund raising, while Warner will be concentrating on managing the regional fly-in.

Vice Presidents elected with duties involving fly-in aircraft are Don Woodham, Cliff Elrod and Ron Paduh. The three other Vice Presidents operate all of the remaining fly-in aspects, and include Joanne Warner, David Talley and John Kuhfahl.

Twelve Directors complete the Board, and have been selected for their expertise in specific areas. They are Gary Garvens, Jimmy Tubbs, Harry Cook, Bill Gunn, Boyce Vardiman, John Schmitz, Ken Koock, Ralph Royce, Steve Andrews, Bill Tarver, Wayne Nelson and Dick Smith.

Planning is well underway for the 2007 fly-in, which will be held June 1st and 2nd at Hondo, with an Executive Committee meeting on September 15th, 2006. A Board meeting is scheduled for November 17th, where all volunteers are invited to attend a gathering at San Geronimo Airpark.

While the 2006 event at Hondo was our largest ever — with the blessing of good weather — 2007 will be even bigger. We’ll have more camping facilities, more exhibitors, an expanded forums venue, and more fun, food and fellowship at the traditional Saturday evening banquet.
